Standard and High Definition Filters

The development of high definition ("HD") cameras and lenses and their increasingly widespread use, has created a number of issues for cinematographers and DPs. Formatt has accordingly developed a range of glass filters which have been specifically designed for High Definition.

As a result of extensive R&D over the last 3 years, the HD filters range has been developed to meet industry demand for improved HD image quality during acquisition, and gives cinematographers new creative options as they shoot with HD cameras. The new HD filters were launched at NAB 2006.

Formatt Filters' new HD filters range includes HD Soft, HD Neutral Density, HD Clear UV, HD Soft Gold and HD Supersoft Gold, plus HD linear and circular polarizer. The new high definition filters are manufactured to Formatt Filters' highest optical standards, using the very latest in materials technology, to ensure colour consistency when being used in High Definition production.

Formatt has also tested its standard filter range to designate filters which, while not designed specifically for HD, meet all of the performance criteria for High Definition. This has resulted in a complete range of filters, which may be used with all types of HD cameras.

Formatt recommends the purchase of the HD filters range even when shooting with film or standard definition video, as the filters, while developed for HD, are useable for all types of cameras.
